Taste My Kids Presents: The Best And Worst Of 2006 (Part Four)

One special award that can't be bothered with this year was "Channel Of The Year," since YouTube ended up being everyone's favorite channel. In 2005, "the internet" ended up maintaining the preservation of music videos. But by the end of 2006, music videos were luckily saved by YouTube, which gave them a significant amount of relevancy which was not quite as present since the turn of the decade.

And plus, the easy access YouTube provides has made it possible to post links to all of the best TV performances and promo videos for this year (including this year's worst videos, in case anyone wants to view those for laughs.. except they will likely inspire far more killing than laughter, so perhaps linking to those was a bad idea).

Music On TV: 2006 Edition
In 2006, Late Night TV became more significant to music than MTV. The commercialization of indie-rock ultimately lead to more indie-sounding bands getting signed and getting pushes from labels. YouTube also helped to increase the ratings of Late Night TV, which may have also made some difference. Before getting into the top 5, these are a few that I personally enjoyed...

  • Eagles Of Death Metal: "I Want You So Hard" (Letterman, CBS) |Watch|
  • Tapes N' Tapes: "Insistor" (Letterman, CBS) |Watch|
  • Band Of Horses: "The Funeral" (Letterman, CBS) |Watch|
  • Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: "In This Home On Ice" (Conan, NBC) |Watch|

  • It isn't clear exactly how this happened, but The Late Show With David Letterman has turned into one of the most musically relevant shows on television. However, it was IFC's often uneven The Henry Rollins Show, the strangest new talk shows of the recent past, which booked most of this year's strongest TV performances, all of which were shown in their entirety without any edits, resulting in bands like the recently reunited Dinosaur Jr. rocking out for nearly 8 minutes. Hopefully they'll book Sigur Rs next season.

05 Dinosaur Jr. "Forget The Swan" (The Henry Rollins Show, IFC) |Watch|
04 Slayer: "Cult" (The Henry Rollins Show, IFC) |Watch|
03 Muse: "Starlight" (MTV Europe Awards, MTV) |Watch|
02 Thom Yorke: "Cymbal Rush" (The Henry Rollins Show, IFC) |Watch|
01 TV On The Radio: "Wolf Like Me" (Letterman, CBS) |Watch|
