Taste My Kids Presents: The Best And Worst Of 2006 (Part Two)

I'm so lame.. I was predictably unable to reach my goal, fucking up the whole plan only on day 2 of this 8-day extravaganza. Like anyone cares.. Also I haven't yet finished what I said I was going to post today. And on top of that, I'm posting 2 of the "big" lists today instead of waiting until the end of this whole thing. It's all a big mess this year. I'm sorry.

The Worst Music Of 2006
Thanks to emphasis on immediacy, shorter attension spans, and shorter shelf lives, brought partially by bloggers, YouTube, YTMND, and commentary related shows like Best Week Ever, seriousness and sincerity (both heavily emphasized elements of pop music during the 90s) has now almost completely disappeared. Bands such as Audioslave who try to maintain that seriousness now seem a lot more ridiculous and laughable. The collective perspective has taken a new shape; hating aspects of pop culture is now considered a lot more fun than it used to be. In the past, we had all realized and subconsciously believed this but simply didnt want to admit it to ourselves.

As a result, a seemingly unprecidented amount of bad popular music was released in 2006. The reer sound (which appeared to be dying towards the end of '05) had a strong resurgence in 2006, thanks to new material from the likes of Nickleback and Lifehouse, as well as a new band named Hinder, whose horridness reaches levels that match Scott Stapps most infamous attempts. Fergie's The Dutchess further explored some of the more miserable untapped areas hinted on Gwen Stefanis Love Angel Music Baby, the record that essentially created Fergie's solo career and has likely laid out the blueprint for the next few years of piss-poor hip-pop.

By the end of the year, there was actually so much bad music that it was difficult to determine standouts. This ended up making this years "worst music" lists kind of a chore to compile, but they are now finally completed, and hopefully this music can be forgotten as quickly as it was intended to be...

The Worst Albums Of 2006
When Paris Fucking Hilton cant even get her record in the 20 worst albums of the year, youve gotta figure pop music must be at a low point. As expected, the competition was fierce.
